The Carrollton Schools Alumni Foundation, Inc. is operated exclusively for educational purposes. All funds collected are used for curriculum enhancement, special projects, programs and related uses for the benefit of public school children in the Carrollton Exempted Village School District.
In the late 1990’s, Judy Lowdermilk (1959), Michael Maiorca, Superintendent of Schools, and Gilbert Brooks (1954) began gathering information and laying the groundwork for the establishment of an alumni foundation. In September of 2001 the Carrollton Schools Alumni Foundation was founded with the purpose of enriching the quality of education for the students and to create a sizeable endowment that will fund special projects, programs, and education needs in the Carrollton Exempted Village School District.
The Foundation encourages teachers from grades K-12 to develop special learning projects that enhance the curriculum. The teachers submit a proposal to the Principal of their specific building, who, in turn, submits acceptable proposals to the Superintendent/Alumni Foundation for funding. The Board of Trustees then reviews the applications and awards the grants. The money comes from yearly sustaining memberships, honor & memorial gifts, charitable contributions and earnings from endowed funds. This project is very successful but we still can’t fund all projects due to lack of funding. Historically, we have funded about 50% of requests. Help us “Make a Difference in Our Classrooms”.
Hall of Fame:
The Annual Hall of Fame Weekend takes place the 1st or 2nd weekend in May each year. Anyone can nominate a CHS alumni graduate who has a distinguished career. Nomination forms, which include instructions for the Nominators, are available on the Alumni Foundation website (www.carrolltonschools.org/alumni). The deadline for all nominations is November 30. After the nominations are submitted in writing, the Alumni Foundation Board of Trustees review, discuss the applications and voting is done by secret ballot. The Hall of Fame Inductees and their families are then notified and invited to attend the Hall of Fame weekend activities which includes honoring the Inductees at the Friday/Saturday evening Hall of Fame Banquet. The HOF Banquet which is held at the Atwood Yacht Club is open to the public and tickets can be purchased by contacting any Alumni Foundation Board member. Pictures of the Inductees are hung on the Alumni Hall of Fame wall which is located in the Carrollton High School (in the hallway just as you leave the Principal’s Office).
The Carrollton Schools Alumni Foundation, Inc., invites each CHS graduate/alumni, the opportunity to become a Sustaining Member ($30.00 a year), or a Lifetime Member ($500.00 – one time contribution or a 3 year option). You can play a vital role in helping us meet the needs of the students we serve. Every year the Carrollton Schools Alumni Foundation, Inc., makes an appeal to alumni, current parents, grandparents, faculty, staff, and friends for their support of its projects. These unrestricted funds are particularly valuable because they can be allocated where they are needed most in the current school year. Our success hinges on financial support to provide the funding necessary to be able to offer these special projects as well as provide minimal operating expenses for the Foundation.
