MAP for Parents

MAP TESTING FOR PARENTS

Dear Parents/Guardians,

Carrollton Exempted Village Schools is excited to announce a new diagnostic assessment system called Measures of Academic Progress (MAP).  This assessment system will replace the monthly STAR Reading and Math assessments for students across the district.  It is important to note that the Accelerated Reading (AR) program will still be available for students K-5.

MAP will be utilized for students in grades 1-12, in the areas of Math, Reading and Science (grades 3-8 only).  This assessment is an adaptive test, which means students should expect to get about 50% of the test questions incorrect.  Because the test adapts to a student’s individual learning, students may also see new material during a testing session.  This is an important aspect of the assessment, as it will define what a student is ready to learn next, even if that material is below or above grade level content. MAP will use assessment data to give teachers and administrators valid, reliable, and predictive data that can be used to guide instruction for the individual student, creating opportunities for differentiated instruction for all learners. Additionally, MAP is closely aligned to Ohio's Academic Content Standards and the AIR tests.  While taking MAP, the students will also have the opportunity to practice answering technology enhanced questions to build 21st Century skills.

MAP is taken 3 times during the year, with each test consisting of about an hour.  Students across the district will begin testing September 6, with testing windows to follow in December/January, and March/April.  Individual building testing schedules vary, so please look for updated testing schedules from your building principals.  Daily schedules will be altered on testing days to minimize the loss of instructional time.

MAP reports may be shared with you at parent teacher conferences, at report card time, and upon request.  Additionally, teachers will work with students throughout the year to create student growth goals and will celebrate academic progress, regardless of a student’s learning level.  As a district, the focus is on growing all students academically.

Additional information about MAP is available on the district website: www.carrolltonschools.org.  Click on the MAP tab at the top of the page for FAQ and a sample test.  If you have any questions about MAP, or the implementation of the assessment program, please contact Stephanie Glasure at stephanie.glasure@carrolltonschools.org or by calling 330-627-8281, Denise Cooley at denise.cooley@carrolltonschools.org, or your building administrator.
