College Visitations

Early fall is a great time to be on college campuses. Each junior and senior at CHS is given 2 college visit absences that do not count against their absences for the year. The visit has to be pre-approved with a form in the office. You can look on college websites for formally planned visitation events on campus or you can schedule your own individual day to visit.

College Applications
College applications are now available online on the college websites. Look under the admission tab. Each college has its own deadlines for college admission, scholarships, and selective majors admission. Some colleges will require an application fee to be sent along with the application, these range from $30-$65. (If you qualify for free or reduced lunch, talk to your counselor about a fee waiver or print the form here and bring to your counselor.) Transcripts will also need to be sent and they can be requested in the guidance office. READ ALL of the directions for applying and make sure you have done each step to complete the process. DEADLINES ARE REAL!!
The Common Application is available for students doing several selective admission applications. Check with individual colleges or go to the common app website for a listing of member colleges. The Ohio State University uses only the common app.

NCAA Eligibility   (www.eligibilitycenter.org)

Seniors need to be registered on the NCAA Eligibility website NOW. Along with answering questions on the site, they will ask for your high school transcript to be sent to you and your ACT scores need to be sent directly from the ACT corporation. You can do that by going to actstudent.org and logging into your account. Click on "Send Scores", which will require a small fee to be paid.

Financial Aid consists of scholarships, grants, loans, and work-study. Scholarships can be found at scholarship internet search sites, college websites, and local high school guidance offices. Grants and loans are based on filing FAFSA (Free Application for Student Aid) filed after October 1, 2020 at fafsa.gov . Some scholarship databases include fastweb.com , finaid.org , and scholarships.com.

High School Office Information ... OCIS is still available for you to research occupations, college majors, college sort, and financial aid information. Go to ocis.org and the username is "carrollton" and the password is "ohiocis03"

Affordable Colleges Foundation, an organization dedicated to providing free higher education tools for current and future college students and their families, recently published research on all the Not-For-Profit universities and colleges in Ohio that offer online college programs.  Historically, online programs have only been offered by for-profit institutions.  Today, many of the most established not-for-profit state colleges and national universities have launched programs that provide flexibility and lower tuition prices for students.  This dataset is unique to our site and is even ahead of the curve compared to other government education data sources such as NCES and IPEDS.  A few of the key features on the page:

  - Unique list of accredited not-for-profit institutions offering online programs, sorted by affordability
  - Spotlight interviews provided by many college deans with the institution's philosophy on online learning
  - Direct links to the specific online departments, or e-campus, of each institution.
