conservation
Third and fourth graders participated in a soil field day. Jason Reynolds from Carroll County Soil and Water Conservation district and Jimmy Giannone from NRCS provided hands-on activities as students jumped into a soil pit. Students learned anbout identifying layers and experimented with water run off/absorption in sod compared to bare soil.  Kristy Dickey from the Muskingum Watershed Conservation District involved students in a hands-on watershed model.  Students were able to experiment and see the effects of buffer zones, wetlands, and the impact of surface water runoff  in watersheds.  They also learned that everyone lives in a watershed.  Linsey Geiser from Carroll County Public Library and Kay Russell, Outdoor Educator took students on a journey down a river as Fred the Fish encountered pollution from sediment, plastics, oil, trash, fertilizers, and road salts.

Emphasis for the day was to be aware of the environment, how we impact the environment, and the little daily things we can do to make a difference.

A special thank you to Carrollton Street Department for digging the soil pit!
